I'll start with a confession. I absolutely hate mopping.
Actually, I hate most cleaning jobs that take forever, especially when I've got three messy boys who seem determined to undo everything I've just cleaned.
We have a big house, and between the kids, the dogs, and everyday life, there's always something that needs cleaning.
Over the years, I've tried plenty of gadgets and appliances. Some have been brilliant, others have been disappointing, and a few have completely changed how I manage our home.
I'm not interested in spending hours cleaning every day. I want things that make the jobs quicker, easier and less overwhelming.
So here are five cleaning appliances I genuinely love, what I use them for, and the things I wish I'd known before buying them.

1. My Dyson Mop — The Best Cleaning Appliance I've Ever Bought
Best for: Busy households, everyday spills and anyone who absolutely dreads mopping.
If I could only keep one cleaning appliance, this would probably be it.
I used to put off mopping for as long as humanly possible.
I had one of those spray mops with a cleaning pad that you push around and scrub with. And don't get me wrong, I actually loved it. I still use it for cleaning the walls!
But mopping our entire house? Absolutely not.
It was hard work, messy, and took forever. By the time I'd finished, I felt like I'd done a workout.
Then I bought my Dyson mop.
And honestly? It's probably the best cleaning appliance I've ever purchased.
Now I can whiz around the floors in minutes instead of dreading the job all day.
Why I love it
The biggest thing for me is that it doesn't just mop.
Say one of the boys spills a bowl of cereal. Instead of getting down and picking up all the soggy bits first, I can run the Dyson over the mess.
It picks up the debris and collects it in a removable tray. When I'm finished, I pull out the tray and empty it into the bin.
It also collects the dirty water separately, so I can tip that out when I'm done.
And because it picks up things like sand, hair and fluff while it's mopping, I can sometimes skip vacuuming beforehand if the floors aren't particularly dirty.
That's two jobs rolled into one!
Another thing I love is that I use it with water, without needing to add cleaning chemicals.
Is it worth it?
For me, absolutely.
It's made a job I genuinely hated so much easier that I actually do it now.
And with three boys, that's worth a lot.
Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat.

2. My Roborock Qrevo — Meet Dustin Bieber 2.0
Best for: Keeping on top of everyday dust, dirt and crumbs without doing all the work yourself.
Meet Dustin Bieber 2.0.
Yes, that's what I call my robot vacuum. And yes, the name survived an upgrade. 😂
I genuinely love having a robot vacuum.
With a busy household, it's so handy to have something working away on the floors while I'm doing other things.
My Roborock Qrevo is much quieter than my previous robot vacuum, including when it empties itself, which I really appreciate.
And it does a great job of keeping on top of everyday cleaning.
But he's not perfect
Does Dustin Bieber 2.0 still get stuck?
Absolutely.
Not so much on the dining chairs, surprisingly. He's more likely to wander into one of the kids' wardrobes and get himself stuck in an open wardrobe.
So yes, the occasional rescue mission is still required.
What about the mopping function?
This is something I think is really important to understand before buying a robot vacuum-mop.
I love the convenience of having a mopping function, but I wouldn't rely on mine to replace a proper mop.
It's great for light dust and keeping paw prints off the floor, but dried-on food and sticky messes are another story.
Those little mopping pads just don't tackle those messes as thoroughly as I'd like.
That's why I still use my Dyson mop.
The Dustin helps maintain the floors, while the Dyson handles the messes that need more attention.
Is it worth it?
For me, yes.
Even with his occasional wardrobe adventures, Dustin Bieber 2.0 saves me time and keeps the floors under control between proper cleans.
3. My Kärcher Handheld Steam Cleaner — For the Grime You Can't See
Best for: Deep cleaning grout, stubborn marks and those horrible little crevices.
This is one of those cleaning appliances I wish I had time to use every day.
I originally bought my Kärcher handheld steam cleaner because I was getting so frustrated with the grout in our bathrooms.
No matter how much I scrubbed, there were stubborn little marks that I just couldn't seem to remove.
And then I discovered all the other things I could clean with it.
The hidden grime is horrifying!
Have you ever cleaned around the edges of your kitchen or laundry sink and discovered how much crud is hiding underneath?
I was genuinely amazed.
Those little joins and crevices can look perfectly clean until you get into them properly.
I also love using the steamer for suitable areas around the stovetop and oven, where ordinary wiping doesn't always get into the tricky spots.
Mine also has an attachment for cleaning suitable glass surfaces.
Another bonus is being able to clean with hot steam rather than relying on lots of cleaning products.
What I don't love
The water tank is quite small.
Because it's a handheld appliance, it's compact and manageable to hold, but that means stopping to refill it fairly frequently.
If you're tackling a bigger deep-cleaning job, that can get a little annoying.
And as much as I'd love to use it constantly, I simply don't have the time.
This is definitely more of an occasional deep-cleaning appliance for me.
Is it worth it?
If you enjoy a proper deep clean or struggle with stubborn grime in hard-to-reach places, I think it's a brilliant tool to have.
It's not something I reach for every day, but when I need it, I'm glad I've got it.
4. My Kärcher Window Vacuum — Bathroom Cleaning Heaven
Best for: Shower screens, mirrors, windows and making glass cleaning much quicker.
I absolutely love this thing.
Despite being called a window vacuum, I probably appreciate it most when I'm cleaning the bathrooms.
Mine came with a spray bottle and a removable, washable cleaning pad.
I use the pad to scrub down my shower screens and bathroom tiles, then grab the window vacuum for the glass.
And this is where the magic happens.
Instead of pushing dirty water down the shower screen and having it drip everywhere, the vacuum works like a squeegee that sucks up the water as you go.
It's ridiculously satisfying.
My cleaning routine
I currently use a homemade mixture of water, vinegar and dish soap in my spray bottle.
After scrubbing the shower screen, I run the window vacuum down the glass.
Sometimes, like any squeegee, it leaves a little line.
So I grab a dry cleaning cloth, quickly wipe over any streaks and along the bottom edge, and she's spotless.
That's it!
I also use it on mirrors and windows, and it cuts down the time I spend cleaning glass.
The cleaning pad can be removed and washed, which is another feature I appreciate.
What I don't love
It's not always completely streak-free without a final wipe.
But honestly, running a cloth along one or two lines is a tiny job compared with cleaning the whole shower screen the old-fashioned way.
And I may have broken my spray bottle, which is rather upsetting. 😂
Is it worth it?
Absolutely.
If you've got lots of glass, shower screens or mirrors to clean, this is one of those appliances that can make a boring job so much easier.
5. My Dyson V8 — I Didn't Realise How Much Dust Was Still in My Carpets!
Best for: Vacuuming carpets, bedrooms and everyday household dust.
This is my newest cleaning purchase, and I am seriously impressed.
I'd been struggling with my old Ryobi stick vacuum for ages.
It picked up crumbs, but the carpets never really looked properly vacuumed afterward.
You couldn't even tell where I'd been, apart from the fact that the visible bits were gone.
So I finally bought a Dyson V8.
And OH MY GOD.
The suction on this thing!
I've now vacuumed all the carpeted areas of our house, including the bedrooms, and I couldn't believe how much dust it collected.
The crazy part?
I'd already vacuumed not that long ago.
The carpets actually look different
You know how freshly vacuumed carpet can look almost brand new?
That's what I'm getting with the Dyson.
I can actually see where I've vacuumed. The pile looks refreshed, and the carpet even appears a different colour where I've been.
Compared with my previous vacuum, the difference has been enormous.
What I don't love
Using it on maximum suction for the whole house is a workout!
I had it on high because I wanted to give the carpets a really thorough clean, but by the end I was exhausted.
So it's not completely effortless, especially on that setting.
And because I've only recently bought it, I'm still getting to know it.
Is it worth it?
Based on my experience so far, absolutely.
After being so disappointed with my previous vacuum, it's lovely to have one that actually makes me excited to see the results.
Do You Really Need All Five?
Absolutely not.
And I wouldn't suggest anyone rush out and buy five expensive cleaning appliances just because I love them.
They all do different jobs in our home.
The Roborock helps keep the floors maintained between cleans. The Dyson mop handles everyday wet messes and proper floor cleaning. The Dyson V8 tackles the carpets. And my two Kärcher appliances come out when I need to clean glass or give something a proper deep clean.
If I had to choose just one favourite, though?
The Dyson mop wins. Hands down.
It's the appliance that's made the biggest difference to a cleaning job I used to absolutely dread.
But that's the whole point of finding systems and tools that work for your home.
It's not about owning every gadget or having a perfectly clean house.
It's about making the jobs you have to do a little easier, so you've got more time and energy for everything else.
And with three boys, two dogs and a busy household, I'll happily take all the help I can get!
